Municipality of San Lorenzo Ruiz is a fifth (5th) class municipality located in the southern part of the province of  Camarines Norte.  It is bounded on the east by the municipalities of Basud and Daet, on the west by San Vicente and  Lupi, Camarines Sur, on the north by Daet and on the south by Lupi.  It was created as an independent town of  Camarines Norte by virtue of Republic Act 6144 enacted by the Congress on November 8, 1970 as the municipality of  Imelda (now San Lorenzo Ruiz) On February 10, 1989, Congress enacted Republic Act 6708 changing its name to SAN  LORENZO RUIZ in honor of the first Filipino Saint Lorenzo Ruiz.  The municipality has a total land area of 20,000 hectares or 200 square kilometers.  Population data as of CY  2007 statistics survey is 12,299 inhabitants in 2,696 households composed of twelve (12) barangays namely Barangay  Daculangbolo, Laniton, Langga, Maisog, Dagotdotan, Mampurog, Matacong, San Isidro, San Antonio, San Ramon,  Manlimonsito and Salvacion.    San Lorenzo Ruiz falls under the second climatic type characterized by a very pronounced maximum rainfall in  the months of November to January and no definite dry season throughout the year.  Its topography consists of flat  lowlands, rugged and rolling hills to high mountains.  Its soil is of the San Manuel’s Clay loam type that is generally  suited to crops production. Due to its considerably high elevation, which is about 300 meters above sea level, the  temperature of the locality is relatively cold.  As an agricultural municipality, majority of the people depends on farming for livelihood.  Main agricultural  products are coconut and pineapple (Formosa variety).  Also produced are fruits, rice, and other diversified crops.   Handicrafts can also be found in the locality using abaca fibers, rattan, tiger grass (walistambo) and other indigenous  resources. Municipality of San Lorenzo Ruizis popularly known tourist destination because of its nature-given wealth of  unique tourism assets and resources.  Domestic and foreign tourist frequently visited the municipality because of rivers,  falls, springs and mountains for outdoor adventures.  As the holder of having the cleanest inland bodies of water in the  Bicol region made the town popular and becomes an advantage for its tourism industry to gain distinction and  recognition as Eco-Tourism area in the province of Camarines Norte.   There are various potential and developing tourism sites in the municipality both man-made and natural which  are now rising as tourism destinations for all kinds of eco-tourism activities in the Province of Camarines Norte.  These  tourism sites have many activities which can be offered to visitors depending on the choice of the tourists.  These may  include activities like trekking, mountain climbing, bird watching, camping and all kinds of nature adventure.    The town proper of San Lorenzo Ruiz is 13.5 kilometers away from Daet, the province’s capital.  It is accessible  via land transportation using the Daet-San Lorenzo Ruiz Provincial Road with average travel time of 30 minutes in  public utility conveyances and 20 minutes in private vehicles.  From Manila, it could be accessed through Maharlika  Highway (Manila South Road) traversing the towns of Sta. Elena and Labo, all the way to Daet.  Superlines  Transportation Company is presently extending their services in the municipality which has a daily trip schedule from  Cubao-San Lorenzo Ruiz and vice versa.
